Infinitely better…
The addition of the black sari silk and handmade clasp gives this piece more of an eery vintage feel I was going for.
Someone also commented that the ribbon reminded her of the hair ribbon Alice wore.
Curiouser and curiouser…
Also finished up some earrings and a pendant necklace with the other steel/paper components:
Holy cow, that really transformed this piece! I love it. I liked it before, too – but wow,…it really added something w/the silk ribbon – it’s so mysterious and exciting at the same time!! Very cool!! (oh, and I love the way you did your clasp, too – sweet!!)
Thanks so much, Shel. I too ‘liked’ the necklace before, but something kept bothering me, maybe too symmetrical? This idea smacked me just as I was falling asleep. I think it deepens the link between vintage and eeriness.
Very interesting. I was inclined to like the first version (w/out the ribbon) better and was going to post as much until I read the comments. Then when I looked at them again, I agree. The ribbon makes it more unusual and brings out the dark fairy tale aspect (as if it’s a bow from Alice’s hair). Nice job.

Welcome, Lisa. Oooh…I hadn’t even thought about Alice’s hair ribbon. Adds to the creep factor a little, doesn’t it?
Thanks for posting your thoughts on this necklace.
